Summer Health: Tips To Keep Adults And Kids Feeling Their Best

Summer is a season of sunshine, vacations, and longer days – and it’s also the perfect time to focus on your well-being. Whether you’re heading to the beach, spending weekends at the park, or just enjoying slower routines with your family, prioritizing summer health will help you make the most of the season. We’ve got some important tips for you below.

1. Stay Hydrated

It may sound simple, but it’s easy to get dehydrated in the summer heat, especially for kids who are busy playing and forget to drink water. Make sure everyone in the family has a water bottle handy and aim to sip throughout the day. Add fruit slices or a splash of juice to make water more fun for kids (and adults too!).

2. Don’t Forget The SPF

Sun protection is another must. Wearing sunscreen daily (even on cloudy days) protects your skin from sunburn, aging, and long-term damage. Choose a broad-spectrum SPF of 30 or higher, and don’t forget often-missed spots like ears, feet, and the back of your neck. Hats and sunglasses are also great summer staples for extra coverage. Parenting hack: use a makeup brush to apply sunscreen to kids’ faces for less fuss!

3. Stay Active

Staying active during summer is easier than ever with outdoor activities like hiking, swimming, or even family bike rides. But remember: try to avoid extended time in peak heat hours (usually between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.) and opt for early mornings or evenings when it’s cooler. If you’re indoors more often, keep kids moving with games, dance parties, or active video games.

4. Eat Well

Nutrition also plays a big part in summer health. This is a great time to take advantage of fresh fruits and veggies like berries, watermelon, corn, and leafy greens. These are all in season and make tasty, hydrating snacks or sides. Try building meals around lighter, whole foods to keep energy levels steady during warmer days. But, the occasional ice cream treat won’t do too much harm! Life is about balance, after all.

As the days get hotter, we’re hoping you and your family have a great summer. Take care, stay cool, and enjoy all the sunny days ahead! We’re here for you if you need us.
